The Bull-Pen Weekly Update - Week 4

Post by xIncredibleHawkx on Tue Mar 01, 2016 11:26 pm

The Houston Texans fall to 1-3 on the season after a very disappointing loss to the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. After being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for week 3, Brian Hoyer struggled early on, throwing 2 picks in the redzone before a powerful blow from Mario Williams knocked him out of the game in the middle of the 3rd quarter. His replacement, Kellen Moore, was not much help either. A lot of what's going wrong down in in Houston is the lack of talent on the receiving team. After trading away arguably the best wideout in the league in DeAndre Hopkins, Houston has been struggling in that area. The receiving core is led by veteran Jericho Cotchery, who has been less than stellar so far this season. He dropped a crucial 3rd and long pass which would have resulted in a first down, but instead caused a second consecutive 3 and out which seemed to be a huge confidence killer on offense. As for the running game, veteran Marshawn Lynch and Joseph Randle managed to rack up over 110 yds., Beast Mode added 2 TDs. This combined with a respectable effort from the defense is what kept Houston in the game, in fact they were leading with 2 minutes remaining. Matt Ryan had a great game passing for over 300 yds. and 3 TDs, one of those touchdowns coming late in the game, leaving only seconds left on the clock. Houston had about 45 seconds and 3 timeouts to drive down the field, but Kellen Moore threw an interception, ending the game. "They were just on the field too much today, and when we needed that final stop, they were too tired to make it happen" a fan said of the defense. To add insult to injury, the league imposed a penalty on the Houston Texans for a recent illegal trade made with the New Orleans Saints. The details of the trade are not known, but the trade was reversed and Houston was forced to give up a 2nd round draft pick. Brian Hoyer was asked about his injury after the game, "I'll be okay, I'll be ready to go next week". Next week the Texans have their first divisional matchup, the Indianapolis Colts. All AFC South teams entered week 4 with a 1-2 record, so Houston still has a very realistic chance at a playoff run. There is still a lot of football left, but the Texans have a lot of work to do if they want that run to be of any significance.
