The Bull-Pen Weekly

Post by xIncredibleHawkx on Mon Feb 22, 2016 9:09 am

The Texans started the season with not-so high expectations after a very disappointing season a year ago. They failed to make any major moves during the offseason and look to be "stuck" with mediocre quarterback, Brian Hoyer. However, despite their inability to improve their roster, they managed to squeak by a very tough Kansas City Chiefs team at Reliant Stadium on Sunday. Head Coach Bill O'Brian seemed very pleased with Houston's performance,  "We played a very good team today, KC has a tough bunch of guys on that roster. I'm damn proud of how well our guys played today." The numbers were not astronomical by any means, but it was certainly a great performance on both sides of the ball. Brian Hoyer led the Texans offense to nearly 300 total yards. Hoyer threw for a respectable 229 yards and a score. Arian Foster looked as healthy as ever with a total of 188 yards from scrimmage along with 2TDs, majority of those yards being accumulated in the passing game. Kansas City did a fairly good job stopping the run overall, Houston's run game was held to just 66 yards. As for Houston's defense, they looked strong. They held KC's offense to just 276 total yards, and stifled star running back, Jamal Charles, who did not reach the end zone in Sunday and was held to just 74 yards rushing. Newly acquired veteran CBs, Keenan Lewis and Chris Houston, who both signed 1 year deals in the offseason, each had an interception at crucial moments in the game, keeping life in the Texans offense while they trailed late in the game, 20-17. Along with the great play from the secondary, the Texan's defense managed to record 3 sacks, half of which belong to J.J. Watt. "It feels great being back out here kicking off week one at home and getting the opportunity to beat up some QBs again, I'm looking forward to great season for us, we are gonna be a force to reckon with this year, I promise you that." said Watt. Houston has a tough match up next week at Carolina.
